As an organisation, the CC Press was set up by the poet Mark 'Mr T' Thompson, who was also a qualified secondary school teacher, and classically trained actor, with a background in educative theatre. Naturally, an obvious outlet for our work was the education sector.
Even before we had a finished copy of our first publication ‘Mixed Messages’, we were emailing various contacts to offer them our services, as providers of poetic, social and educational resources.
Workshops have followed in Secondary Schools, Sixth Forms and FE colleges across three London Boroughs. Audiences from BTEC National Diploma to entry level students with special needs in the FE sector and from year seven to thirteen in Secondary Schools have been introduced to the concept of performance poetry, explored a wide range of social themes and worked on their own material in performances and workshops during the 09/10 academic year.
The response has been consistently positive and the feedback overwhelmingly encouraging. A number of the schools involved have purchased class sets of the books in order to build on the work initiated by us, to support their curriculum in the areas including PCHE (Personal, Citizenship and Health Education).
As an experienced Drama teacher, workshop facilitator and performer, Mark has written new material specifically to help deal with a range of issues and enjoys tailoring workshops to meet the individual needs of schools and their students.
